“… Getting to know all about you. Yet another Austin resident will make her debut on national television — but no one knows quite when we’ll be able to tune her in.

After nearly 100 interviews with private investigators around the country last year, producers from NBC’s “Dateline” newsmagazine chose local private investigator Karen Rider, owner of Investigations Unlimited since 1994, to pit her skills against a private eye from San Antonio.

The goal: To see which sleuth could learn more about the other in one month using surveillance techniques, the Internet, database searches and field interviews. Rider says she spent three days in October with producers and a film crew — and much of the month looking over her shoulder.
